I've heard a lot of writers talk about their crazy discipline and schedules and self-enforced quotas and deadlines. That can work to an extent. I often could end up very happy with what I wrote on deadlines. But the things I've written that I'm happiest with are the ones that fermented and fermented, while I had the instinct to just wait a little longer, and then came pouring out all at once like the words were flowing through instead of coming from me.
It can sound really sanctimonious I guess when creative people talk like this, but it feels true to me . Thanks for writing this.
